Dave Gahan told TV channel E! earlier that day:
"It's a party. We've done a similar thing in London for the record, like a record release party. There's gonna be quite a lot of fans there that have won tickets through various radio stations and stuff, and also a lot of friends and guests. I guess altogether like 1500-2000 people, something like that. So it's gonna be some party. There's deejays and all that kind of stuff, and lots of strange-looking people walking around. We'll play like five songs, one old song and four songs from the record. It's fun doing it. I'm really looking forward to it. It's not like I have never performed sober before, like nothing: a drink, or pill, or anything, or something - I have. But I can't remember the last time I did. And we've done the same thing in London. And I think, for me personally, it sounds good enough to walk out and sing and feel really nervous and excited at the same time. And to not use something to prop myself up with, and just have to go out and "be drawn to the light", as Mick Jagger would say."
Jason Bentley was the support act, as a DJ. Jason got to interview the DM 16 years later at 2013-03-13 SXSW, Convention Center, Austin, TX, USA. As he says in that interview, he was friends with Tim Simenon and got to meet Dave Gahan via him in 1996. Jason also interviewed Tim Simenon in May 1996 for KCRW FM, perhaps this is how he got to know Tim, and perhaps this is also how Jason got to DJ before DM. He also DJed before Martin Gore's two shows at the Mayan Theatre in 2003.
Actor Jamie Foxx and Madonna were in attendance.
