Notes

Depeche Mode's second appearance during KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas. Their prior appearance was during their 1998 The Singles Tour: 1998-12-12 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA, USA. This was night 2 of KROQ's event. Depeche Mode were the headline act. Other bands on this night included Coldplay, The White Stripes, Jack Johnson, The Bravery, Death Cab For Cutie, Hot Hot Heat and Nada Surf.

Many tracks were reworked as acoustic versions, so this recording is a must-have. The backing tape crashes during I Feel You and it takes a few minutes for the band to restart. Peter Gordeno plays a little bit of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" during Enjoy The Silence and Never Let Me Down Again. This concert also had the first performance of Shake The Disease since 1990.

Chris Martin of Coldplay, who performed before DM, said before their last song, "Please give [Depeche Mode] the respect they deserve for being the forefathers of modern music". Comedian Andy Dick was in attendance.

Sources

  • Source 1 is a mostly-lossless pre-FM / soundboard source, with patches from FM broadcasts. It is a complete recording and also includes a short nonsensical interview with Martin and Andy after the show.
  • Source 2 is a DVD of the concert, but I believe it is taken from the webstream feed since the video is so choppy and the audio quality is so poor. There are no messages from fans scrolling at the bottom of the video throughout as was on the original webstream (available as Source 3).
  • Source 3 is a direct rip of the webstream, thanks to Angelinda. The video is still quite glitchy and low-res, the audio is still poor, and there are messages from fans scrolling at the bottom of the video throughout.
