I can't help it, not sure what to do
Does seem crazy, not good for my health
I've seen the doctor, he's come to look at me
I've seen the doctor, he's come to look at me
If you don't believe me, don't believe
If you don't believe me, don't believe

Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time

Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time

But I'm saying that I need a pill
But I'm saying that I need a pill
I need you like a drug to keep my feel
I need you like a drug to keep my feel
I can't handle everything I do
I can't handle everything I do
Now I'll prove I'm only good to you
Now I'll prove I'm only good to you

Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time

Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time

You just have to look me in the eye
You just have to look me in the eye
I kept running, I don't know why
I kept running, I don't know why
It's an addiction, an image of love
It's an addiction, an image of love
Your heart pushing angel from above
Your heart pushing angel from above

Closer all the time
Closer all the time
Closer all the time

Revision as of 17:35, 15 January 2024

"Addiction" was performed during the 1980 Tour, and only one decent audience recording of this song exists from 1980-11-14 Technical College, Southend-On-Sea, Essex, England, UK. This date may have been the song's only live performance. This song may have went on to become “Don’t Go” by Yazoo following Vince Clarke’s departure from Depeche Mode. The track is occasionally referred to by fans as 'Closer', 'Closer All The Time', or 'Ghost Of Modern Time'. The entire track, as well as lyrics transcribed to the best of our ability, are below.

There has been contention regarding the true name of this track. Bong Magazine Issue 24 clears this up; please see the scans below.

Daryl Bamonte recalls "Addiction" as being premiered at 1980-11-14 Technical College, Southend-On-Sea, Essex, England, UK:

And through faded memories, I seem to remember "Addiction" being showcased at Southend College 11/80 but I might be wrong."

But I'm saying that I need a pill

I need you like a drug to keep my feel

I can't handle everything I do

Now I'll prove I'm only good to you

Closer all the time

Closer all the time

Closer all the time

You just have to look me in the eye
