Notes

Andrew Fletcher can be heard singing backing vocals during the end of this song, the lines "All that I'm saying, a game's not worth playing, over and over again". Audio from the rear channels of the 5.1 multichannel version of the song where Fletcher's vocals are clearly heard is below. Other than Interlude No. 2 - Crucified, this is the only Depeche Mode song where Fletcher's vocals can be clearly heard. During live performances of this song, Alan Wilder sings this line, as seen in the pro-shot video of 1982-10-25 Hammersmith Odeon, London, England, UK starting at at timestamp 53:43.

  • Fletch's ending backing vocals:

For comparison purposes, here are the other vocalists' lines:

  • Dave's chorus vocals:

  • Martin's chorus backing vocals:

  • Martin's very quiet backing vocals at end of the song, from the front stereo channels of the 5.1 version:

Lyrics

The Sun And The Rainfall

Someone will call

Something will fall

And smash on the floor

Without reading the text

Know what comes next

Seen it before

And it's painful

Things must change

We must rearrange them

Or we'll have to estrange them

All that I'm saying

A game's not worth playing

Over and over again

You're the one I like best

You retain my interest

You're the only one

If it wasn't for you

Don't know what I'd do

Unpredictable like the sun

And the rainfall
