| Andy Fletcher told [http://depeche-mode.hu/hdmfc/temak/bang98/budapest88.html Képes 7 magazine] (translated from Hungarian):
| |
| <blockquote>"Sacred is about love, about love as a creed."

| When Depeche Mode was interviewed about the songs on the '101' CD for the April 1989 issue of French magazine 'Best', Alan Wilder said (translated from French):
| |
| <blockquote>
| |
| "It was not one of the tracks that worked best on stage. We could have improved it by working on it in the studio, but we preferred to mixing the live version quickly due to wanting to mix one song a day. Our goal was that the live version matches exactly what was performed at the concert. Hearing the audience throughout the songs was done deliberately. We did not want a live album [https://www.simpleminds.com/1987/05/11/live-in-the-city-of-light/ like that of the Simple Minds], for example, which has been almost entirely redone in the studio. The only sounds of atmosphere that they kept were a few applauses, and some shouts left at the beginnings and ends of the songs. That's not live, it's studio-live."
