A group of male fans had spat on Dave's shirt during the gig. Dave Gahan told Hotpress magazine:
"It really upset me. I felt like I wanted to go off after the first number [after having been spit on] (grins wryly). It's bad, because most of the audience that were there, were really enjoyin' it, y'know? And it just ruins it for them — people that've paid three quid, or whatever, to get in, and who wanted to come and see the gig. Because you can't give one hundred per cent, 'cause you don't feel in the mood to give one hundred per cent. I think that a lot of the people there were really enjoyin' themselves, and they really wanted to enjoy it; but if there's a few people like were down the front, that's all it needs — who just come along, and they've had a few drinks, and it's something to do after the pubs shut."
He also told Record Mirror, published on 1982-10-23:
"It was a bit hairy in Ireland, our coach driver got beaten up. We did three gigs, two of 'em were great, but at one of them the crowd were a bit backward. I think they thought they were watching a punk band or something. I can't stand it when people start spitting, it really spoils everything."
Matt Fretton was the support act.
