Notes

This recording is a capture of the Assistive Listening Device feed intended for use by hearing-impaired individuals. The feed's signal was mostly steady and stable, but unfortunately, it seems that the feed was overdriven which caused a significant amount of inherent distortion. This particular file set has been remastered to significantly improve audio quality and make this recording a much more enjoyable listen.

Here are the taper's notes from the original file set:

Well it's a crapshoot when you try to use these devices and after the show it turned out that I got a good feed but also quite a bit of static. It's definitely listenable and maybe someone can clean this up. I have tried to use these before with no luck at all (sometimes bands just don't turn on the system, which I understand is an in-house FM transmitter and receiver setup with the box). We flew in for this show and my buddy got a great AUD recording as well.

Recorded by JLW. Seeded on DIME 12/09.

There are occasional bursts of static noise throughout the recording where the ALD signal degrades. Home between 0:30 and 1:45 experiences signal significant dropouts. The last 1:30 of The Sinner In Me experiences some dropouts and bursts of static as well. The beginning of Just Can't Get Enough is also affected by signal issues and a few measures are missing as a result.

In terms of remastering:

  • One of the stereo channels was inverted. This caused significant destructive phase cancellation as well as a jarring "tunnel" sort of sound. This has been corrected.
  • Some dynamic range was restored by applying a high-pass filter at 20hz to reduce the amount of subsonic junk.
  • The last 4 songs were affected by significant crackling in the right channel. However, since this seems to be a mono recording, the unaffected left channel was pasted over the right to cleanly eliminate the defect. These last 4 songs also seem to be considerably noisier than the rest of the recording.
  • A volume adjustment right before A Pain That I'm Used To has been smoothed out.

In the interest of preservation of the master recording, the unaltered file set is still available at Source 2. This also allows you to compare and hear exactly how much this recording has been improved with this remaster.
