Notes

In August 2025, Chrissie Hynde (of The Pretenders) announced a cover album, on which every track would be accompanied by one of her famous friends on vocals. For Fred Neil's track 'Dolphins', a song strongly associated with Tim Buckley's cover version, she asked Dave Gahan to co-sing the vocals. For the February 2026 issue of Mojo magazine, all of the collaborators were asked to say something about their collaboration with Chrissie Hynde, and Dave answered the following:

"The Pretenders came up with punk. They were at the back end like us, but they were a band that could actually play shall we say! I hadn't met Chrissie when I recorded that track [Dolphins by Fred Neil]. We’ve since met at the Mark Lanegan tribute at The Roundhouse, but [Pretenders guitarist] James Walbourne was the instigator. We were working on [2021 album] Imposter together and she reached out through him. I actually recorded my first vocal take in my bathroom at home because I like the sound in there. I found out she recorded hers in her kitchen which I love. Chrissie's voice is so unique. The moment you hear the first words she sings on anything you know it's her. It seems so effortless the way she sings."

The cover album 'Duets Special' was released on October 17th. You can listen to the song on YouTube and other platforms.
