It would seem that the PA system went out during Shake The Disease and much of the song was performed acapella - or at least, that's how it would seem to the audience, and indeed, that's how it sounds on the available audience recording below. The band's monitor speakers probably still worked.

Attendee Mike Steinbach recalled:

"The intro started at 21:07pm [...] The curtain fell and we received the tones of 'World In My Eyes'. [...] Next came 'Halo', then 'Shake The Disease'. Then literally the blow hit us. The sound system broke during the third song of the evening. The audience stopped listening to music, but the band kept moving on stage. The crowd started singing along even more loudly after this. Only shreds of music reached the audience. After the song, the band left the stage without a word. After what felt like an eternity, the organizer, I think it was Marek Lieberberg, came on stage and announced to us "Dear ladies and gentlemen, we have a technical problem", and nothing else. After what felt like another eternity, and after the "booo" and "money back!"-shouts, finally the first tones of 'Everything Counts' could be heard. [...] I remember someone threw a piece of chewing gum on Martin's guitar belt which he threw back into the audience."

Electribe 101 was the support act.

  • Source 1 is a good audience recording.
  • Source 2 is a good audience recording and is a rework of several sources to create the most complete version of the recording (mostly adding additional audience noise during Shake The Disease), but it is also significantly louder with more distortion. If you're just looking for quality, go for Source 1.
