Here is Daryl Bamonte's entry for the famous Devotional Tour Diary, published in Bong magazine in 1994:

Al’s birthday. I’m proud to say I (Dis-)Organized the most boring birthday party ever. Never mind. He’s got another birthday to come before this tour’s over.

Miranda Sex Garden were the support act. Hepzibah Sessa (Alan's future ex-wife) said in the Q&A on Shunt:

I first talked to Alan on the second night of our support leg which was also his birthday - I had no idea who he was or what he did - we used to wind each other up a lot after the show and he'd ask me to go out to clubs etc.. It was about 3 days into the tour that I realised he was the bloke to played the drums. We became pretty inseparable from that point.
