1981-09-29 Les Bains Douches, Paris, France/Source 2
Notes
An excellent stereo FM broadcast recording with some occasional radio interference.
The DJ, Bernard Lenoir, is highly talkative between songs and frequently speaks over track intros and outros. The taper attempted to minimize this by physically pausing the recording during sections containing chatter, but this unfortunately resulted in the loss of some music, such as at the ending of Ice Machine.
Throughout the recording, the mixing can sound somewhat weird. Dave's vocals are often low in the mix, which he even addresses before performing Nodisco by asking to "turn the voice up then, can't hear me."
Between some songs, an audience member's shouts can be heard, although masked by DJ chatter. For instance, after Big Muff, the individual seems to complain about the song being an instrumental. At the start of Just Can't Get Enough, Dave dedicates the song "...for the heckler down there."
Dave's irritation with this person is apparent when he introduces What's Your Name?, when he says that "tonight we're gonna end on "Pretty Boy" ... for a change," implying the encore might be skipped. However, they did proceed with the encore performance of Television Set.
Please note that a generally superior-sounding and complete pre-FM reel-to-reel recording is available as Source 1
Despite being a mono FM broadcast recording with worse quality, a first-generation cassette remains available on the wiki as Source 3, as it contains audio missing from this source.
