Notes

The bootleg's front artwork.

A good sounding audience recording. It is seemingly uncirculated until now, and it is confirmed to be a unique recording and not a mislabel of another recording from around the time of this concert.

The recording is slightly hissy sounding and with slightly shrill treble depending on the song. There are occasional clicks and pops and brief dropouts heard throughout the recording. Fortunately, the crowd is pretty quiet around the taper. There appears to have been some type of noise reduction applied by "fer101" who remastered this recording according to the bootleg artwork. The tape flip occurs between And Then... and Photographic and there is a crossfade between those tracks, but no music seems to have been lost.

Very overpowering bass and most of the shrill treble was reduced using some equalization. Speed correction was applied, but despite this, there still seems to be some minor speed errors for certain songs, probably as a result of the original recording device.

The taper is said to be "José SV" according to the bootleg artwork. He contributes the following memory which is printed on the bootleg artwork in both native Spanish and an English translation, transcribed below:

Jose SV

At that time I was doing my military service in Barcelona near the military barracks next to the zoo and I couldn't go to the concert that took place the day before in the Auditorium of Valencia, but I could go to the concert in Barcelona. I was serving with the rank of lance corporal and I was able to leave with permission to go to the Depeche Mode concert in Studio 54. A 90' cassette tape, a stereo pocket recorder bought in Andorra and perfect control of the time to turn the tape over. I was on the top floor, next to the DJ booth and sound control and with less crowds, and I recorded the whole concert. The rest is history, the history of a memory. José SV

Many thanks to darkdevoted for purchasing this bootleg, ripping it, taking good photos of all of the artwork, and providing it to be shared freely. Thanks also to José SV for recording this concert long ago.

If José SV is reading this, please contact me at [email protected]. I will be happy to help ensure your irreplaceable recording is better preserved. I am confident that better sound quality can be obtained from your master cassette.
