Girl: Um, a while back when Depeche Mode was in Toronto for a concert, well, they came into Grimsby McDonald’s for breakfast, and uh, the girl that served them, Christina… (laughing)

Skot Turner: You had to name her there, since we’re going to embarrass her.

G: Well, she served them, and she didn’t realize she served them. They had been wearing identification tags and she’d saw that they said “Depeche Mode” on them, and so she asked them, “Oh, did you go to the Depeche Mode concert?”, and the guy just looked at her and gave her a funny look and said, “Yeah…”, and she asked them, “Oh, was it good?”, and he goes, “Well I think so…” (laughing) So…maybe next time, Christina, if they ever come in again, you’ll recognize them. (laughing) So we’d like to dedicate this song to Christina.

S: Alright, well thanks for coming in. Best of luck to you in the future.

G: Thanks. (laughing)

S: Alright, that was the appropriate answer. Alright, the Shep is next, “Live from RPM”, to take us there: Depeche Mode, “Policy of Truth.”

(“Policy of Truth” starts playing)

Martin Gore: I think the track that we had most problems recording was “Policy of Truth.” We just felt that it’s- the first time, we actually recorded it twice, even, the first time we recorded it we just felt it sounded too much like us. It didn’t sound bad, but it just sounded like really like us, you know? Like, no surprises, nothing… So we went away and we totally reworked it, you know, different bassline, totally different speed, everything. And we ended up, and we still thought it sounded like us, but you know, but it actually- that one, that track did take us quite a long time to get to that stage.

(“Policy of Truth” continues)
