Notes

Fan sign.

A very good audience recording. There is a slight cut at the beginning of Never Let Me Down Again due to tape flip, and Stripped is missing about 45 seconds toward the end of the song due to another tape flip. Stripped and Policy Of Truth suffer from some wow & flutter, resulting in noticeable speed issues starting about halfway through Stripped and during the beginning of Policy Of Truth before the quality returns to normal.

Notes from the taper:

Recorded with a Panasonic Stereo recorder and realistic stereo miC. This was recorded directly in front of satellite speakers on a pole at the front center of the lawn. The miC setting I used was "wide stereo" and aside from a little crowd and one cut this is one of the best recordings of the tour. Back in the early 90's someone I traded with from Goldmine pressed this show onto silver discs. Please note that toward the end of the show you can here people chanting "Route 66", these people were very drunk and started a bonfire in the center of the lawn out of the "fan" giveaways from the local FM station that were made of wood and paper - please see photo. There was a lot of hype and excitement for this show in Houston and this was the place to be if you were in your teens or early 20's at the time. I even recall that the Houston mayor dubbed the weekend "Depeche Mode Weekend".

Revision A notes: 2023 retransfer on a high-end Nakamichi cassette deck. High-frequency response is slightly improved, there is less hiss, and general clarity of the recording is improved. The track splits are also better placed than the prior version. Though this revision is not a humungous upgrade, this recording is so good that it deserves a high-end transfer to extract as much detail as possible from it.

Many thanks to James K. for providing these cassettes for archival.
