This category includes recordings that are lossy but have been re-encoded into lossless formats, such as FLAC Level 8. There is confusion regarding which recordings should be classified as lossy. Here is a helpful chart:

  • Most recordings copied in LP Mode, while not necessarily lossy, are considered as such due to their reduced fidelity and limited frequency response, typically up to 16KHz.
  • Traditional FM broadcast captures, including those recorded in LP Mode, are not included in this category. FM broadcasts inherently have a limited frequency response, and even recordings made in LP mode typically have adequate sound quality.
  • MiniDisc recordings, although inherently lossy, are not included in this category; they are covered in their own section.
