Category:Lossy recordings in lossless formats

This category includes recordings that are lossy but have been re-encoded into lossless formats, such as FLAC Level 8. There is controversy regarding which recordings should be classified as lossy. Here is a helpful chart:

  • Most recordings copied in LP Mode, while not necessarily lossy, are considered as such due to their reduced fidelity and limited frequency response, typically up to 16KHz.
  • FM broadcasts, particularly those recorded in LP Mode, are not included in this category because FM broadcasts inherently have a limited frequency response, and those recorded in LP mode typically have adequate sound quality.
  • MiniDisc recordings, although inherently lossy, are not included in this category; they are covered in their own category.
