Engineer Steve Fitzmaurice said in the 2006 Exciter remaster documentary:

"I think by the end of January, we had to finish [the album]. But it was quite generous, the time we had. I think by the time we got to London, there were still a few tracks to record, but it was more or less all finished. I think there was only two or three songs to mix in London. Freelove still being one of them: there was still Fletch going on about wanting backing vocals. Martin finally did the backing vocals, at about 2 o'clock in the morning, quite drunk on the last night."
