Elly Apfel was a prolific European taper of Depeche Mode live concerts from 1984 through 1993. The vast majority of her recordings are of excellent quality; her earlier recordings from 1984 are only good quality at best.

Elly sold copies of her recordings, and even had some advertisements in some smaller magazines. She taped concerts from the 1990 World Violation Tour as well, but she claimed her recordings were "too good" to share. She encountered trouble with police in 1993 and her entire collection (not just Depeche Mode) was confiscated, so presumably the master tapes have been lost.

The equipment she used before 1987 is unknown. For the 1987-1988 Music For The Masses Tour, she used a Sony WM-D6C cassette recorder with unknown microphones. The equipment used for the 1990 World Violation Tour is unknown. For the 1993 Devotional Tour, she used the Sony "Scoopman" digital microcassette recorder, again with unknown microphones, which rivaled DAT quality.

I have had the opportunity to transfer many of Elly's recordings. Many of them are sourced from low-generation cassettes, most of which were generously supplied for me to transfer by Falko. A few were transferred and shared by darkdevoted on DIME.

The full list of Elly's tapes that Falko purchased is below. In time, I will transfer all of them on the Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck and make them available to download. For most of the recordings that do not have Dragon transfers of Falko's low-generation copies performed yet, existing low-generation cassette transfers done by fallenqueen are available and are marked as such.
